In the Secret Wars, the Beyonder called together an assortment of Earth's greatest heroes and villains for battle. After the battle, all villains were captured and the Hulk discovered a machine that could make clothing from the thoughts of the user. Spiderman wanting to repair his torn suite reached into the machine and found a black "alien Symbiote." It instantly blanketed itself over Parker's entire body, but it did not replace his old suit with his traditional blue and red, but rather made itself into the black costume. Spiderman soon learned that the Alien Symbiote was trying to take over his mind and was trying to permanently bond itself with Peter Parker. Mr. Fantastic using a sonic blaster freed Spiderman of the Symbiote for good, with the alien in its weak state it came across a down and out Ed Brock. Ed worked at the same newspaper as Parker and hated Parker with a passion. Once the alien Symbiote bonded with Brock it formed the villain known as Venom, which vowed to kill Spiderman at any cost.
Enter Devil's Own Resin "Consumption – Venom" kit. Since there is only one other kit of Venom, and that had been produced by Horizon at least 10 years ago. This long overdue and awaited kit of the Alien Symbiote has finally come into existence.
A total of 30 solid resin pieces make up this outstanding kit. Sculpted by the talented Gabe Perna in Scotland, he has literally brought Eddie Brock and Venom to life right from the comic book pages.
To first look at the kit you are taken back by how Gabe transforms Venom as he is taking over Eddie. How the liquid like alien creature known as Venom oozes over Eddie and the skull and base. The splashing of the tentacles over the skull, base and Eddie are done with such fluid likeness that it enhances this kit beyond ones imagination.
An instruction guide is included with this kit, hey when was the last time you bought a garage kit that included an instruction book. Can't remember, neither can I. The instruction book allows for the placement of the tentacles on the base and Eddie, without it you would spend a long time trying to figure out where each tentacle is to be placed. Each tentacle is also numbered to make life easier.
The casting is flawless, casted in black resin, the kit contains no pinholes and has a seam line that is easily removed with wet sandpaper. You do not have to use a Dremel, this is how light the seam lines are. Gabe has included pegs and peg holes that match up Venom to the skull base, as well as his hands. This means there is no need to pre drill holes and pin the kit together. This will save a lot of time and headaches.
Once assembled, this kit stands 11' tall. The likeness of Venom and Eddie are done with superb details. Gabe has really captured the trademark teeth and long tongue of Venom along with the white spider on the front and back, while also paying close attention to Eddie as well, from his buzz like haircut to his white tee-shirt. The skull base along with the splashes of tentacles all over it really adds the finally touch to the kit. I think by going this route and not sculpting the lower parts of Eddie and Venom was a wise choice by Gabe. This puts the kit between what I think is a cross from a bust and a full size kit.
I purchased this kit from Devil's Own Resin website for $100.00 which also includes shipping. Ramsey, who answers all their email is very helpful and returns emails promptly. The kit was shipped and packaged with the most care taken that not a single piece was damaged. Also the tentacles were placed on a spruce tree which means no loose pieces floating around in the box.
If you’re a fan of Venom than this is a kit for you, try not to let this kit ooze through your fingers. LOL, sorry just had to get that in.
